Hey Everyone!
But, I want to update you all on what has been happening.
CSH/Key Club week was a success - thank you for all of your support!
We raised so much money for UNICEF! Thank you all for that!
All of you made amazing cards that we are sending out.
During our Bring A Buddy Meeting we more than doubled our regular turnout!
Way to spread the word guys!
The Stand Up To Cancer Walk Committee has gotten a lot done so far!
But since the walk is in March we have to buckle down - a lot more planning to go!
Start thinking off more ideas on how to raise money!
Also take a look at your lists from last time!
Just to warn you all a Walk Committee meeting will be coming up soon, as well as a Public Relations Committee meeting!
Anyway have a good break!

As you guys may know, but you probably don't because if you did - that would be creepy, I'm going on vacation and I will be busy until August 14 (vacation, band & tennis camp). So there most likely will not be any updates (there may be but probably not).

Saturday, August 22

For the August 15 Events PLEASE if you are interested in signing up text/call our President Sara Myles (whose number I am not posting for privacy but you ALL should know it because you submitted your forms and she has texted you) OR i.m. our s/n JLHSKeyClub on AIM.
There will NOT be any charity of the weeks this friday coming up, and probably next friday (however, do not fret - I will be posting the two I have planned later on. I know how much you all enjoy them :] )
Lastly, have a great last part of your summer. Schools coming up ahead so START the summer work you've been procrastinating to do.
There will be even MORE key club events once we start school, so get excited!

Charity of the week: N/A
Okay I just spent 3 hours, THREE HOURS, writing the best charity of the week ever. Actually it wasn't about a charity, but it was about Kiwanis International. I wrote about the government and who holds what position, how we effect the world, etc.
And you know what happened?
Blogger had an error and deleted all of it. And it wouldn't save any of the drafts like it usually does!
So since I do not have three more hours to write it AGAIN, I'm sorry but you all will have to wait for next week. Hah, I know I can hear all your disappointed sighs.
Until then, Have a great week!
Your Editor,
Alexia

The Beach Banquet is Canceled!
Here is a text from our LTG Kay Manuel about the cancellation of the banquet!
"Dear Beach Party Attendees: Due to the high chance of thunderstorms tomorrow, and the rain this week, the CSH Divisional Function will be canceled until we reschedule it in August. I am sorry for the late notice, and please inform everyone you have invited. Again, I apologize for canceling our event due to bad weather."
Though this is unfortunate, look on the bright side. Now you have even more time to convince others to come! Raise the attendance and raise the money we fundraise for CSH. It'll be a fun time.
Can't wait :)
Have a great week!

Mini Mini Post: CSH, Clean Communities and Sign ups.
Clean communities (9-10:30 @ the corner of natures blvd and brewers bridge) and our monthly CSH visit (3:30 - 5:30) is tomorrow! Be there if you signed up!
PS: (this is a personal note from me, Alexia, howdy!) Next time you all sign up for an activity make sure you can come. Of course you can be excused sometimes (you know, emergencies and stuff) but when A LOT of people drop out last minute well it screws us all up. Anyway, please try and remember this next time :) thanks! (And again, please don't think I'm being harsh - I'm just saying in general)
Double PS: Please answer all texts and or forms of communication that we send to you if it pertains to an event going on that you signed up for. We like to confirm that you all are coming to events and if you don't confirm, well we are at a lost because then we don't know if we need replace you.
Sorry if I'm coming on strong, but I would just like to point out those two things. :)
Have a goodnight guys!

Alexia
Charity of the Week: Charity Walks.
All of you know that the JLHS Key Club is planning a charity walk of our own, so today I wanted you all to be a bit more informed about charity walks in general.
How does a walk raise money?
There is a crazy amount of ways charity walks raise money. For example:
1. Registration: Usually there is a fee of some sort. It can go from as low as $5 to as high as $100.
2. Pledges: In some cases, before the event, walkers are asked to get their friends and family to pledge a certain amount of donation. Then they collect the credit card information, etc.
3. Donations: At the event you can usually donate more if wanted.
4. Sponsorships: Certain corporations will pay to donate or pay to have their logo on a poster near the event.
Do you have to walk?
You can volunteer to help run the event, and you can help by donating money period. You don't have to walk.
Can I run?
Yes. In fact there are multiple of walks were you don't necessarily walk!
There are:
1. One day walks.
2. Walk-a-thons (where you walk a certain amount of miles for a longer period of times - usually days)
3. Runs.
4. Sprints.
5. Relays.
So no matter what your style is, you can still participate.
What are some examples?
Good question! Here are only some of the many walks that go on: (all sites can be found of http://www.thewalkingsite.com/)
American Heart Walk
Race For The Cure
Avon 2 Day Walk
Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk
24 Mile Walk for Life
MS Challenge
MS Walk.
Jingle Bell Run/Walk
National Kidney Foundation Walk
Leukemia Society Light the Night Walk
And there are so much more!
What do I need to remember while walking?
Two things!
1. You are helping the charity. Sometimes people get carried away and walk for the glory. Walks only have one winner and that is the charity that is being benefited.
2. Relate you physical fitness to the walk you choose. Do not pick the 60 mile, 3 day walk, if you cannot achieve the necessary physical output.
Can I see a video about walks?
Of course you can! :) Some of the videos are PSA's while other's are recaps of walks in general. I hope you like them :)
Anyway, I hope you realize the importance of our walk and I hope it's gotten you a bit more excited about the idea :)
Have a great weekend guys!

Alexia

Mini Post: Dining to Donate and PCM!
My computer is finally fixed, so you can all calm down your Key Club information is here! :) (I know all of you are so dedicated that you were lost without these updates! Hah!)
Anyway, thanks to all who went to the Dining to Donate. I'm not sure how much we fundraised but, any amount helps!
And, the Presidential Council Meeting, was great today. For those of you who do not know, a PCM is where the boards of our district meet with our LTG, Kay Manuel. (PS: Thank you, again, for awarding me with the District 6 Officer of the Month award :) )
Anyway, that is all that happened in the span of days my computer was broken.
Yay!
Have a good night guys.
By the way, for all who received your AP scores today, I feel for you!
Hope you did great :) Hahah.

Corrections
I don't know what happened but it seems like some of you believe there is a general meeting tonight. No, there is not. There is the Dining to Donate, and then there is a Board Meeting.
Here's a little run down:
General Meeting = Everyone.
Board Meeting = President, VP, Treasurer, Both Secretaries, Editor, Historian, LTG (or any member of the district board that chooses to come), Scalzo, and Ms. Corman. (AKA: The board :) )
Sorry if there's a little bit of confusion.
As for the Dining to Donate it is not mandatory so for those of you who have Doctor's appointments, etc. It's fine. Dining to Donate is just a way we can raise money for our club and especially for the walk.
It is very suggested you come. :) But if you can't, it's fine. No pressure. :)
Hope I helped correct some of these problems that seem to be swarming around!
Have fun at Dining to Donate tonight, Hope to see you there!

Alexia

Mini Post::: Dining to Donate and Cameras
Here's just a small thought. As you can see our picture portion of our site is lacking a lot, and during the summer we have a couple of great picture opportunities.
So here's the deal,
Please bring a camera to the Dining to Donate thing and take a picture of you, or a group of your favorite key clubbers and post it on the photobucket account (which the username and password are on the resource page!)
This isn't the only place to take pictures too. So at meetings, car washes, CSH gatherings, anything.
Please and thank you - you don't know how much that would help!
Your Editor,
Alexia
Mini Mini Post:: Dining to Donateand Agenda
Dining to Donate is tomorrow!
The flyer is on the resource page.
AND the July 8th agenda is on the same page as well.
Anyway be at Applebee's tomorrow, it'll help our club :)

I will work on putting the agenda up here too as well!
We will see!

Mini Post:: Computer Failure
My computer failed, so I'm borrowing my mothers! :) Anyway, I most likely won't be able to post the charity of the week, the agenda, and the dining to donate posters.
I will probably be able to update the calendar with the events really quick, but all the meeting information will be posted in a couple of days when my computer is hopefully fixed :)
Maybe sooner, I don't know what the computers will do.
Hopefully my computer gets virus free soon! But when it does, everything will be posted!
Sorry for the inconvenience.

These things are so important - especially our walk. Come! You get hours for coming to the meeting, and at the meeting you can sign up for events that will get you even more hours!
If you can't come, I will post the agenda and any forms needed on the blog a couple days later. But please come!

Mini Post: Newsletter.
So I finished the newest edition of the newsletter and I have been trying to get it into pdf form so I could show you all on the blog. But of course, as you all may have read in previous posts, pdfs just don't want to work with me.
So here's the deal: I will of course continue my struggle against Adobe PDF's (and it will probably end unsuccessfully). However, if you want to read it, comment this post with your email and I will send it to you right away.
PS: If you are worried that other people will see your email, don't be. I moderate all posts, so if you post a comment with your email, I will delete it.
Okay, that's all.
Hope your all having good summers and your all getting good tans! :)

Charity Of The Week: Cancer Charities.
This past week we have been hit with multiple celebrity deaths. One being Farrah Fawcett, who died from Cancer. Because of this recent tragic loss of an idol, I believed it was suitable to replace the Charity of the Week, with a post of recognition.
We all know how horrible Cancer is, whether it's from personal experience of losing a loved one, to learning about it in our science books. That is why everyone comes together and tries to put a stop to it.
There are many charities that try to find cures, and help people who are effected by it - so today, this post is for all of them.
Here are some examples of cancer charities:
American Cancer Society
http://www.cancer.org/
The Valerie Fund
http://www.thevaleriefund.org/
Susan G. Komen For The Cure: (Breast Cancer)
www.komen.org
The Simon Cancer Foundation:
http://www.thescf.org/
Prevent Cancer Foundation:
http://www.cancerprevention.org/
Nation Brain Tumor Foundation:
http://www.braintumor.org/
Interested in finding more charities? Check out - http://www.cellscience.com/CANCharities.html which is a national listing of cancer charities and societies all over the world.
For YEARS people have tried to spread awareness. For example, this PSA is from the 1960's!
And this one - more recently.
Recognize some actors/activists? That's because EVERYONE is joining this movement. This PSA includes Christy Turlington, Tilda Swinton, Elle Fanning, Tobey MaGuire, Christina Ricci, Susan Sarandon, Morgan Freeman, Mayor Bloomberg, Keanu Reeves, Casey Affleck, Lance Armstrong, Jodi Foster, John Williams, Sidney Poitier and the Stand Up To Cancer team!
Stand Up To Cancer is a huge organization who has the support of politicians, buisness men, celebrities and us!
That is why our walk that we are planning is going towards Stand Up To Cancer! That's right, what we do will help them!
We can always help. We are the difference we want to see.
Never underestimate that.
This post is deticated to Farrah Fawcett.
In her memory, stand up to cancer.
We all can.
Have A Good Summer.

Alexia

Charity Of The Week: Charity: Water
Your charity of the week is here!
(My apologies, the video that I tried to put up was bugging out on Youtube :[)
Charity: Water is an organization dedicated to bringing clean water to nations and people in need.
1] Why water?
One in six people everywhere are without clean drinkable water. That's 1.1 billion people!
2] What is Charity: Water?
Charity: Water gives all of the money they raise to find water solutions in places that need it most. For example,"just $20 can give one person in a developing nation clean water for 20 years." AMAZING!
3] What does unsafe water do?
What doesn't it do! It causes 80% of all sickness and disease! It kills more people every year than war! In many places people have to walk hours or days to get water. And this water will eventually kill them anyway. This water puts people vulnerable to all sorts of things - especially children! "Of the 42,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and a lack of basic sanitation, 90% are children under 5 years old."
4] Want to help out?
$2o can give a person in Africa clean, safe drinking water for 20 years
Check their website - http://www.charitywater.org/
Hope your summers are all good so far :]
Your Editor,
Alexia :]

Blogger Hates Me Part Two.
Blogger deleted my charity of the week . . . that I wrote . . . that Blogger also didn't allow me to publish . . . I think Blogger hates me . . . even more than last time.
Anyway, this weeks Charity of the Week will most likely become next week's since 1) it took me a really long time to write it all up and find a video for it 2) I don't have that type of time since I have a history final to study for and 3) I like building suspense :]
Also, a small mention, thank you everyone who did the community cleanup today - woohoo!
Have fun studying for finals everyone :]
Summers coming!

Yet I can post this and it's fine.
Blogger dislikes me!
Anyway, I'm working on it guys - sorry, but it may not be up til tomorrow!

Sorry Sorry Sorry!
Hey Guys!
So yesterday, it was late and I was doing my pounds of history - not the best combination. However I wanted to update the blog about the upcoming meeting, so I did.
But not correctly.
You see today was a GENERAL meeting, and I accidentally told you all it was a BOARD meeting. (Now I understand that because I was unable to go to the board meeting last week, my brain told me - hey you need to go to one of those things and I thought it was a board meeting)
Sorry for all of you who told your friends that there was no general meeting, and sorry for those I inconvenienced which seemed like a lot, considering that there was hardly anyone at the meeting today.
So, all this together - Sorry!
I will be adding everything you ever needed about that meeting up on here, the agenda, the new calendar events (and I promise I will double check this time :])
Again, sorry, and I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!

Charity of the Week: Alex's Lemonade Stand
This weeks charity of the week is . . . Alex's Lemonade Stand!
There is not much to say about this one, but it's a shorty and a goody!
What is Alex's Lemonade Stand?
Their website says it best . . .
"Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of Alexandra “Alex” Scott - a young cancer patient. In 2000, at the age of four, Alex held her very first lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer causes, specifically research leading to a cure. The lemonade stand was a huge success, inspiring Alex to make it an annual event.
After fighting her battle with cancer for over seven years, cancer ultimately took Alex’s life in August of 2004. She was 8-years-old. At the time of her passing, she had raised over $1 million for childhood cancer research. Alex’s legacy of hope for a cure continues through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 public charity.
With the help of thousands of volunteers across the country, donors who give and generous sponsors, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised over $25 million for childhood cancer research, funding over 80 research projects nationally."
How much have they raised?
Over $25 MILLION for childhood cancer. Amazing.
All by selling lemonade.
How do I help?
Host a lemonade stand in your neighborhood - suggest we have one in school! Our just donate in general. Also, many lemonade stands surround us so by looking on the website you can find out when and where!
They also have a gift shop - go check out the site!
What was Alex like? What happened to her?
See for yourself! Go on alexslemonade.org to find out more about Alex and her contributions.

NOTE FROM YOUR EDITOR:
Hey guys, I chose this foundations for a plethra (yes, great SAT word) of reasons. One, because June 12 - 14 is Alex's Lemonade Stand Week/Days. Two, because I don't think most of you have caught on to the many things you all can do!
Alex was just ONE little girl. One. And she was younger than all of you. AND LOOK HOW MUCH SHE HAS ACHIEVED.
Hopefully it did some inspiring, hopefully. :]

6/5 Charity of the Week - Childrens Specialized Hospital
As a Key Clubber, it is crucial that you know your basic stuff on CSH. Why? Well for many reasons.
1] CSH is our district project! (For the fourth year - nonetheless!)
For those of you who do not know, each new Key Club year the district board picks a charity/project they would like to spend a lot of time on. All Key Club's are required to put towards this effort in making the project bloom and grow!
This year our district would like to get $84,350.16 for the hospital.
$20,000 goes to each of the 4 facilities.
$4,000 (representing our fourth year helping CSH).
$350 (representing the $350,000 that our district will have fundraised by the end of our Key Club year.)
And the last $0.16 (representing the day of the 2010 District Convention.)
Also, as hours are taken into consideration, we would all like to serve 11,679 hours at CSH (this represents each NJ Key Clubber!)
2]"It's our hospital"
Again, for those of you who did not attend the RTC. One Key Clubber - when reaching the topic of CSH - had stated that it was our hospital. We put so much effort into it, we become apart of it.
More About CSH ....
As some of you know, CSH is an AMAZING hospital - one that never turns down a patient even if they cannot afford it. (This is where our fundrasing and money come in handy - they help pay the medical expenses!)
Their values are timeless and honorable:
As said on their website (http://www.childrens-specialized.org/)
"Compassion: We provide a loving, caring family-centered environment for the children, their families, and each other. We advocate for children and their families.
Integrity: We are committed to organizational and financial accountability, transparency, respect for all, and ethical practices.
Excellence: We will be the best at our work and provide the highest quality family-centered care to our children, constantly striving to improve.
Innovation: We go above and beyond the norm and will be creative in providing care and solving problems.
Teamwork and Collaboration: We seek to collaborate and partner in all that we do. We are a team where every person is needed to provide the quality care for which we are known. We work together and communicate effectively.
Fun: We will provide a positive and friendly environment."
With eight hospitals throughout NJ, our goal is to help each one as much as we can!
I thought to change it up, in addition to this, I would put a video about CSH up. To show you how much we help, and how important they are.
And this video!
That is especially directed to us!
It's a miraculous thing when you see the second video - the one with our CSH in it, and you recognize the kids. When you know their names, how they are, well that's when you know your making a difference.
And I got to say - it feels amazing :]
No wonder why we always help CSH!
Well that's all for now, tune in next time!
And have a great weekend!

Alexia

Comments and Searches.
So today I want to discuss the use of commenting and searching.
Commenting:
I encourage it, I do. I really want all of you who read to comment more. Even if it is just to say - Good job, Bad job, or Cool. I want you remarks. Why? Because .....
1] The blog is for you, it's all for you. I don't format all of this for myself. I want you all to be the know. If you are, then I am doing my job. If not, then I want to try and fix it. Commenting will let me know this.
2] If you don't like the look of it, I can change it. Simple as that.
3] To get some new ideas for future things.
4] I can help put up information you need!
So you see commenting is a good thing.
How Do I Comment?
Underneath each post it will say 0 Comments or 5 Comments, etc. Click there and it will bring you to a comment page. It will ask for you to leave your name which (please do, I would like to know who you are) and then viola!
Rules:
-Be nice, not rude (if you need to critique, don't do it in a slanderous way)
-Each comment has to be moderated by me anyway, so even if you post horrible things - I can take it off quicker than people post it.
-The JLHS Key Club is not responsible and or affiliated with the comments, any comments that are in anyway shape or form rude/slanderous/inappropriate/etc that are not attended to in a timely manner and effect others - is not the doing of the Key Club.
Searching:
Have you ever needed to find an agenda?
Or missed out on a charity of the week and it was right here, you just couldn't see it?
Well not anymore.
Now just go up to the top left hand box and type in keywords for the post. Such as: charity, introduction, agenda, etc.
It's all here!
I want this blog to be a great experience for you.
I am sorry for the massive blog updates lately but because of the renovations I want you to be informed.
Your Editor,
Alexia.
Resource Page!
Instead of constantly adding posts on agendas/permission slips, I will be posting them here on this Resource Page. The link to this page will be on the right under Navigation, so its easily accessed! Within two days of each meeting I will be posting the agendas/permission slips that I have received.
If for some strange reason it isn't here, comment and ask. :]
Permission Slips/Forms:
Photo Permission Slip:
I love to post pictures and take pictures at events - so does our Historians! However, I need your permission to put it on our blog and future newsletters. Our historians, too, need your permission to put it in our scrapbook. So if you haven't filled it out already, print this and give it to a board member, or Ms. Scalzo!
Agendas:
Just in case you missed the meetings and needed to know what was coming up!
May 6
June 3rd's Agenda has been removed for the mean time.
July 8
Newsletters:
The PDF's still aren't uploading correctly but as soon as they do - ALL of my newsletters will be up here - promise!
Miscellaneous:
Dining to Donate:
Our coupon is on our Photobucket account, however I will post it here as well (the link, anyway).
Dining to Donate!
Photobucket:
Pictures are a big part of Key Club. It would be a help to our Key Club Historians, who are in charge of the scrapbook. Besides, pictures are a great way to document all the things we do and the fun things that happen when we do them!
Now things just got easier. Once you take pictures at events, just upload it onto your computer and then upload it onto our new fancy JLHS Key Club Photobucket for later use! Of course, there are rules to what you upload.
1] What you upload reflects the JLHS Key Club so just remember, no joking around.
2] What you upload will be used in newsletters, blogs, and or the scrapbook so don't upload anything you will mind seeing.
These rules are pretty basic, and I am all sure that you know this, but if not - here you go.

5/30 Charity of the Week - Change for the Children Foundation
I have a small note about this weeks C.O.T.W. This week I have chosen more of a foundation, and this is why. You all are familiar with last weeks 11:11AM charity, right? Well I was so moved that stars and bands that we all listen to were making that much of a difference. So, I chose this foundation because it is just another example about how great some bands are.
-Drum roll!-
Charity of the Week: Change for the Children Foundation!
Though most celebrities have taken their money and put it toward expensive purses and other unnecessary items, the Jonas Brothers, on the other hand, have started their own charity called the Change for the Children Foundation. Its mission is to help others that could not help themselves. They want to spread confidence, and support to children in need.
Mission:
According to their website, the Jonas Brothers have said:
"We started the Jonas Brothers' Change for the Children Foundation to support programs that motivate and inspire children to face adversity with confidence, determination and the will to succeed. When we started the foundation, we figured the best people to help children are their peers -- kids helping other kids who are a little less fortunate. And you proved us right!
Thanks to you, our first initiative - "You Decide. You Donate." - was a huge success. With tons of support from young people all over the world, we were able to give generous donations to five amazing charities: NothingButNets.net, American Diabetes Association's Diabetes Camp, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, and Summer Stars.
With your willingness to get involved and make a difference, you have inspired us to continue working to make the world a better place for kids everywhere. Keep coming back to the Change for the Children site to find out how you can be a part of this incredible journey!"
D-Vision:
As a part of the Change for the Children Foundation, D-Vision’s goal is to help people with Diabetes, spread global awareness, and most importantly, help find a cure. Nick Jonas, fellow member of the Jonas Brothers, was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes in November of 2005, so it is very close to his own heart. Nick wants to shed light on diabetes, and he even wrote a song about his experiences with it titled A Little Bit Longer. On their website, Nick states “. . . I wanted to be able to do something about it. I hope that I can be that positive light.”
What can I do to help?
Lots of things!
1] SHOP!
http://changeforthechildren.org/store.php
By shopping at their store, a portion of each proceed goes to the Foundation. Depending on what you buy the money will go to either 1] supporting the youth or 2] helping the fight against Diabetes.
or 2] TEXT!
http://changeforthechildren.org/signup.php
By singing up you will receive texts on volunteer projects near your area!
It's that simple!
For more information:
Either go to their website: http://www.changeforthechildren.org/
OR
Go look at their fact sheet: http://changeforthechildren.org/pdfs/cftc_pdf.pdf
You all can make a difference!
Have a great weekend guys!

Alexia.

5/22 Charity of the Week - 11:11am
Sorry for the late charity of the week, I had planned to post this immediately after the board's President Council Meeting (PCM) but unfortunately, thanks to the Applebee's Shrimp and a weird movie Icee, I left early because I was sick. So, all of this together, I totally forgot - Sorry!
So to make up for it, I'm adding a quote of the day, for today :]
Okay so drum roll please . . . -drum roll added-
The Charity of the Week is the 11:11AM Charity
11:11AM is a charity that started with a small goal, to help Andrew McMahon (singer/song writer/front man/pianist of Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate) with his fight with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. He was diagnosed on May 27, 2005.
Now this charity is aimed at everyone with Leukemia. No one is left behind!
What does 11:11 AM mean?
As posted on their website (http://www.1111am.com/) . . .
"11:11 is a rather cliche’d excerpt taken from the Something Corporate song, Konstantine. The lyrics read, “I always catch the clock, it’s 11:11…” 11:11 is believed to be the time to make a wish, as all the numbers are 1’s. Some say it only works in the morning, because in 24 hour mode 11 PM is actually 23:00. Although we are making out wishes at 11:11 A.M, A.M. stands for Andrew McMahon, in this case."
How do I help?
The newer way to help is to join this contest. It's fun. And if you win you not only gain the happiness of helping others but . . .
-Two(2) tickets and a Meet and Greet to any Plain White T’s show in 2009
-Jack's Mannequin Merchandise Bundle
-The Academy Is' Drumhead AUTOGRAPHED BY THE BAND
-Something Corporate AUTOGRAPHED RARE Ruthless CD Single
And many more.
For more information on the contest check out: http://www.1111am.com/fundraiser/
There are many ways to help, but the most common is the buying of their orange 11:11AM bracelet and their t-shirt. Their t-shirt says Wish. Love. Hope. Cure. 11:11AM. Glamour Kills. (Note: Glamour Kills is the company the shirt is made).
You can see bands wearing these like . . .
-The Academy Is...
-Ace Enders and A Million Different People
-All Time Low
-Angels and Airwaves
-Ashbury
-Close to Home
-The Color Fred
-Cute Is What We Aim For
-Days Away
-Envy on the Coast
-Every Avenue
-Fall Out Boy
-Hit The Lights
-Jack's Mannequin
-Just Surrender
-Lovedrug
-Mae
-The Maine
-The Morning Light
-Motion City Soundtrack
-My Favorite Highway
-The Panic Devision
-Panic At The Disco
-Plain White Tees
-Relient K
-Sherwood
-Skylong
-The Spill Canvas
-Treaty of Paris
And Many More!
Check out http://www.1111am.com/1111-store/ if you are interested in purchasing!
Where is Andrew Now?
Right this second? I couldn't tell you but . . .
Andrew is still fighting his leukemia battle. Spreading news everywhere!
What does Warped Tour have to do with this?
I'm glad you asked!
Usually 11:11AM travels with all of the bands that are in Warped Tour, and they spread awareness.
Unfortunately, this year they were unable to plan something with it. But this is not the last time you will hear of the 11:11AM Charity!
Who Runs 11:11AM?
A high schooler, and multiple college kids. Don't believe me? Check out their staff page!
That's what's so great about charities, they can be amazingly effective and you can do it!
For More Information . . .
Go online to their website http://www.1111am.com/
Or their facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/1111-AM-Charity/37909094925
Or their myspace page www.myspace.com/1111am
So that's all for the 11:11AM Charity :]
Quote of the Day:
"I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; I will not refuse to do the something I can do." - Helen Keller
oh, and just one more - for good luck :]
"Charity and personal force are the only investments worth anything." - Walt Whitman
Have a good weekend guys!
And sorry for the late post!
Your Editor,
Alexia

Photobucket!
As I said in a previous blog, not every key clubber could be at every event - it's understandable. So this is why I had mentioned that you all should bring cameras, and take pictures (for the scrapbook and this wonderful blog that is lacking the picture personalization from all of you!)
Pictures are a big part of Key Club. It would be a help to Vincent, our Key Club Historian, who is in charge of the scrapbook.
1] What you upload reflects the JLHS Key Club so just remember, not joking around.
2] What you upload will be used in newsletters, blogs, and or the scrapbook so don't upload anything you will mind seeing.
These rules are pretty basic, and I am all sure that you know this, but if not - here you go.
Anyway,

5/15 Charity of the Week - The Make A Wish Foundation.
1] You're posting this on a Friday? But it's supposed to be the charity of the week.
Thank you anonymous questioner, I have a well supported answer to this. The reason I am posting the charity of the weeks on Friday is because everyone is free of school. Let's face it - you may not have time to check the website in the middle of the week. So the first thing I want you to see is the charity of the week, when you do come on. It's very important to know some charities. You know, open your eyes a little.
2] What types of charities are you doing?
Everything. You'll be surprised what there are charities for.
Anyway, back to the first official charity of the week.
-Cue the music-
I wanted to start with one we all know, but may not know fully so our first charity of the week is . . . .
The Make-A-Wish Foundation!
Opening in 1980 the Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded when Chris Greicus, a very young boy, realized he wanted to be a police office. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has spread smiles to kids who have very serious life-threatening medical conditions. Their mission is to make a life changing effect on a child who's life is being threatened.
The Make-A-Wish foundation is probably one of the most widely known and universal charities. And as their website states: "As the Foundation continues to mature, its mission will remain steadfast. Wish children of the past, present and future will have an opportunity to share the power of a wish."
1] How do they grant wishes?
All the information you could ever think of is on their website (wish.org) however, I shall list the process here.
Step 1: Referral
Children who have not been granted a wish from another company are eligible. Parents, friends, and medical professionals all are able to refer someone to this organization.
Step 2: Medical eligibility
They have a lot of company doctors who access the child's medical records. The child must be in a very life-threatening position (the child does not have to die - many live on after the wish is granted - but they must be diagnosed with something life threatening).
Step 3: Finding the true wish
In order to find out the wish, the Make-A-Wish Foundation sends a team to talk to the child to find out what they really want.
Step 4: Creating joy
The team builds an entire occasion around their wish. It's an unforgettable experience that effects everyone.
2] Does New Jersey have a Make-A-Wish Chapter?
Yes we do. All information is on the website (wish.org) but then again I will post it here.
Make-A-Wish Foundation® of New Jersey
Serves the entire state of New Jersey Web site: nj.wish.org

Well that is the end of the first charity of the week. Next week is a good one - believe me! Have a great weekend guys.

Newsletter, Articles, and Pictures! Oh my!
Now last week, during the meeting, we decided to go green and not print a million of copies of the newsletter. Unfortunately, though I am still dabbling with Adobe PDFs and other fun things like that, I have yet to transition the newsletter from my computer to the Internet.
But don't you fear. In the mean time, I just wanted to hit the main subjects from it here. Then, hopefully by next meeting (cross your fingers!) I will have fixed it all.
1] We have a new board.
I know you are well aware of this fact by now, but this is in case you somehow did not know. Don't know the board? Check the JLHS Key Club's profile!
Key Clubbers who were at the walk got to meet Kelly, but when they did Kelly was thanking them! The Key Club International’s Facebook says that Kelly had thanked all for their support and their coming!
What an inspiration!
All information stated above can be found on the Key Club International Facebook. (All credit including the picture goes to Key Club International)."

Mini Post: Just a small heads up.
Don't worry the JLHS Blog will be here before and after that so you can still check in!

An Introduction to Charities.
Charities are a huge part of Key Club, especially since our goal is to give and help. But most Key Clubbers do not know a lot of charities. Most of you - I am only guessing - can name 20 off the top of your head. So on the blog there will plenty of Charities of the Week.
But before we get into that here's a little introduction of charities.
What is a charity?
An organization which collects money to support some cause. (Websters Pocket English Dictionary)
Who can start a charity?
Anyone. That's the great thing about them. They are started by giving and loving people, like you!
How many charities are there?
A LOT! Believe me, there is a charity for ever cause out there.
What charities does Key Club help?
Very good question. We try to help as much as we can but our Key Club cannot possible stretch our self to reach every charity. This year the main project is Children's Specialized Hospital. But we also raise money for people with cancer, the poor, abandoned kids, and so much more!
How can I help?
You already started to! You joined the Key Club which helps out lots of people! Now, start being active, and joining committees.
In addition to Key Club there is one more way you can help . . .
Goodsearch.com is just like Google (and when I say is just like i mean it's the same thing - has very similar results and everything!). It's a search engine but for every one thing you search, it donates money to the charity of your choice.
How many times have you all been on google for a project? Lets estimate and say 100 times this year. Okay and there are, lets estimate again, 50 of you? (Now I think I am terribly underestimating but this is for sake of example). So then between all of us that is 5000 searches. Now since GoodSearch donates a penny for every search, just that one spare second that you needed information for a project has already donated 50 dollars between all of us.
In addition, do all of your shopping through their online shopping mall, GoodShop.com, where you can shop at more than 900 top online retailers and a percentage of your purchases will go to the charity or school of your choice. You pay the same price as you normally would, but a donation goes to your cause! (About 30% of the price you paid!)
It doesn't take much to give. Spread the word and Goodsearch.
That's all for now.
Your Editor,
-Alexia-

May 6 Meeting and News!
So there was a meeting today, and for those of you who didn't go - you probably aren't reading this. But if by some magical way you are, don't you fret. I have the agenda as a little link here:
So here's the link - click!
If this link turns out to be a problem - because I understand that some computers just don't like links - I might just type up the agendas here.
Oh and I know all of you are saddened that you did not get to look at the newsletter (I feel the same way!) Also, since we are always Eco-friendly in Key Club, I will be sending the newsletter through email and hopefully I will post a link for it on the blog. But that is a big maybe.
Cross your fingers!
Anyway, we are always busy so be aware of upcoming things and make sure to check in!
Your Editor,
Alexia.

Introduction.
If you're reading this then, most likely, you are reading it for the first time! Yay JLHS Key Club Blogs!
Shall I start with an introduction? I shall.
Hi, I'm your Key Club Editor, Alexia. Hello, Bonjour, Hola! Konitchiwa!? Did I spell that right - probably not.
Why did I create this blog?
Well that is a great question anonymous reader! I decided to make a JLHS Key Club Blog for many reasons. Shall I list? I shall. (Don't worry, I won't say shall all the time!)
1] Blogs are cool.
The end. Just kidding!
2] Everyone goes on the Internet - easy access to Key Club information!
3] Every once and a while you will forget your information (yes you anonymous reader!) and by writing the information here, you can get it easily.
4] This way, when you do check up here, I can remind you when new things will happen - and remind you that you signed up to do something or help out.
5] I want the Key Club to know each other, for it to be more personal. That is why I made a blog. I think blogs show that though I can be formal - tell you point blank that your supposed to do something - being informal and more personal is the best way to go.
Here are some things you could look forward to:
1] Me! No? Well then . . .
2] Charity of the weeks!
3] Reminders!
4] Puzzles (Yay!)
5] Insight on Key Club International News!
6] Other AWESOME Key Club events
7] Pictures and videos from events.
8] A new update very often. A few times a week (on a busy week of course).
9] Quotes!
10] And other fun things of many sorts!
Okay well, this is all for now. More real information and updates coming soon. STAY TUNED!
Your editor,
Alexia!
